Timmins Daily Response Letter

June 17, 2009

To the Editor:

The Timmins Daily Press

From Hon. Dwight Duncan

Re: Thomas Perry article June 17th Harmony can be harmful

Our government has developed a comprehensive tax package aimed at helping Ontarians of modest income. Ms. Horwath fails to mention many elements of the tax package that would provide direct benefit to Ontarians who need them the most.

We plan to cut the personal income tax rate on the first $36,848 of taxable income by 16.5 per cent, putting more money back into the pockets of Ontarians. We have proposed a new sales tax credit that would provide up to $260 for each adult and child with income of $20,000 or less.

Taking into account all measures proposed by our government, a single parent of two, on Ontario Works, would save $1100 in the first year of implementation and $550 per year from the third year forward.

Our government is taking action to ensure that low and middle income earners are better off. At the same time, the single sales tax is the most important thing we can do to make our economy more competitive for the generations to come.

Sincerely,

David Ramsay

MPP, Timiskaming-Cochrane
