Ontario, July 23, 2009 —Timiskaming-Cochrane will benefit from joint federal and provincial funding to improve municipal and recreational infrastructure, under the Recreational Infrastructure Canada program in Ontario and the joint Infrastructure Stimulus Fund.
The governments of Canada and Ontario will each invest $21,000 in the Iroquois Falls Ball Park as well as $237,000 in Matheson for arena upgrades under the RINC program.
The governments of Canada and Ontario will each invest $20,000 in Black-River Matheson for the rehabilitation of municipal wells under the ISF program.
The municipalities will contribute the balance of the total eligible cost of the projects.
“We are pleased to work with our provincial partners to deliver funding that will create employment and make a difference in the lives of residents throughout northern Ontario,” said MP Greg Rickford. “These projects will bring communities together to get fit and have fun, as well as create local jobs, something this government is committed to doing.”
“Under the leadership of Premier Dalton McGuinty, Ontario is leading the way,” said David Ramsay. “We are creating jobs and the decisions announced today will soon lead to enhanced facilities and services in our community. Our governments are working together to modernize infrastructure in northern Ontario - creating a competitive advantage that attracts business and strengthens our economy today and into the future.”
Approved projects were selected on the basis of merit and construction readiness.
