Englehart Prepares For New Economic Development McGuinty Government Improving Infrastructure in Englehart

The Town of Englehart is encouraging new business development with the help of the Ontario government. Municipal services are being extended to a 40-acre parcel of land near Highway 11.

The Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC) is providing $315,000 to extend municipal water and sewage services to the future commercial and industrial park site. Funding will also be used toward the cost of completing engineering and designs necessary to the installation of the municipal services.

QUOTES

“Our government recognizes that a strong infrastructure is essential to the development of new economic growth and opportunities in the North,” said Northern Development and Mines Minister Michael Gravelle, who also chairs the NOHFC.

“By investing in the development of the industrial park we are helping the Town of Englehart attract new businesses and jobs to the community,” said Timiskaming-Cochrane MPP David Ramsay.

QUICK FACTS

§Early in the1900s, Englehart was selected by the Timiskaming & Northern Ontario Railroad to be its halfway stop between Cochrane and North Bay. This resulted in the creation of the town.

The town’s business district was razed in 1912, immediately rebuilt and extensively ravaged by fire again in 1922.
